We may need a rise of Indie Anime!

We end up relying on anime to be aired on Japanese broadcast stations. Not only that, we rely on localization companies like Sentai Filmworks and Funimation to get licenses and translate the anime for Simulcasting. Unfortunately, we have a dilemma on our hands. Less people in the translation scene translates accurately. Instead, People have a tendency to censor out lines or shoehorn political or moral buzz phrases rather than provide accuracy to the translations. How can we fix this issue. Competition even though it can be a double edged sword, can be vital to pushing and motivating a company to do things more better and accurately. One of the ideas I had in mind: Have the Indie Anime scene thrive.

How can we achieve this? There are crowdfunding platforms available to us such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo. We also have a place for indie film distribution. Allow me to bring up M Dot Strange. He is known for his feature films such as We are the Strange and Heart String Marionette. When it came to how he distributed his latest film, I am Nightmare, He released it to a service known as VHX. The service was owned by Vimeo and as a result, VHX became Vimeo OTT. Vimeo has been known for being the hub for independent content such as short films and animations. We also have DLSite for all works from g-rated to adult rated. If Independent Anime Studios make their first series or movie, there will be a spot for them to sell their content.

Who will translate the shows and films from the indie industry? Independent translators more for accurate translations compared to other in Funimation. Indie localization teams are going to have to be a thing. If it means crowdfunding, so be it. The anime industry needs a more thriving indie scene. Our current translators need competition. They need to feel like they aren't the only shows in town and give up the god act. Independent localization means more passionate people work to provide a highly accurate translation that would make people watching the show from the US and EU happy. DLSite has provided English translations for indie works on their store pages but we need more because DLSite is one person. We need more independent translators who are more willing to translate accurately as possible rather than alter lines and shove political or moral ideologies.

When it comes to the independent scene, things are made with more passion. People want to be entertained when it comes to entertainment, not lectured or treated as younger audiences when the show is rated for older audiences. The indie creators want to create what they want. Indie entertainment was made for those who strive for entertainment by those who strive for entertainment. That can be said when it comes to indie scenes in gaming and animation. We will see more passion when indie anime scene thrives.
