Finding your next favorite game will be harder.

I have been considering going retro for many years recently for a reason. I hopped on the retro scene, just in case all hell would break loose in the gaming scene. The indies and niche games scene has been great when it comes to delivering compared to AAA. However, you have certain actors meddling and getting in the way of things. As a result, creative freedom, video game preservation, and even consumer freedom is in serious danger. Not forget to mention, we are totally in the middle of a quality control crisis. That said, there might be a "winter" for gaming content.

In today's day and age, you want to step back, analyze, and think twice before make your decision on what game you are going to play. You are going to need to do the heavy amounts of detective work before you make your decision. Don't just look at the trailers and screenshots. Go beyond the user reviews. Find the backgrounds of the developers and publishers. Search social media for something that everyone misses. It's not just the money you are wasting, it's also the time and your storage (especially SSD storage). When you hit a wall, all that fun you are having will be thrown out the window. People from within gaming communities have come forward and brought to light of many shenanigans from certain others. Most of such shenanigans are getting in the way of not only games but your enjoyment of games. Games are being rushed and/or made with less effort in mind, predatory and anti-consumer monetization practices and business decisions, and excessive censorship and meddling of games regardless of age rating and target audience are the biggest issues plaguing gaming. It is all worldwide as well. The fun and entertainment are being sucked out of things and we are slow to notice. Last decade we did a terrible job at handling the situation and now, it much worse this decade.

For the time being, just go for the retro collections and keep overanalyzing for red flags as numerous times as needed when it comes to games of today. We don't really know when things are going to get better. However, if someone make a claim about things getting better, you doubt it and be ready to call bluff when something comes up.
